Overview
My view of information technology is that there are three primary layers: Infrastructure, Applications and Strategy.
To consult in these areas effectively, I offer a blended background of Technical Implementations, Project Management,
Information Security and Current Technology Trends. My experience ranges from small businesses to Fortune 50 corporations
and I have tailored my services accordingly on every occasion. Below is an outline of what services I can provide and
a detailed explanation of each layer:
Perspective on Information Technology
My perspective of information technology is that there are three primary layers: Infrastructure, Applications
and Strategy:
- Infrastructure: The core of any IT environment ranging from your home to a Fortune 50 company.
It is comprised of the underlying hardware, firmware and operating systems which control all of your IT
systems. Examples of this are routers, switches and servers.
- Applications: The layer which encapsulates complex program logic to provide easy end user functionality.
This is a broad area that spans web pages, databases, end-user applications and full Enterprise Resource
Management applications such as PeopleSoft.
- Strategy: Information Technology strategy is an emerging area in which large corporations, small business and
individuals must decide how technology will integrate with their long-term goals. Recently, I have seen
IT strategies at all layers; here are some examples. Large companies began integrating mobile web services
into their portals because of the upwards trend towards cell phone web servicing. Small businesses plan how
they are going to leverage the latest technology developments into their current business model to generate
more revenue. Individuals who are building homes or planning to invest in new technology need to understand
the current IT trends before spending a single dime.
